The second annual Kristin's Fund Gala, which was Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Turning Stone Resort Casino, featured special guest speaker Taylor Armstrong. Armstrong is a domestic violence victim's advocate and president of The Taylor Armstrong Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting victims and their families. She is best known for her role on Bravo's Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and also shared her story of surviving abuse in her New York Times bestselling book, Hiding from Reality.
"Part of Kristin's Fund's mission is to create awareness about domestic violence," Gina Pearce, Kristin's Fund co-founder, said. "Taylor Armstrong and her story help people understand that domestic violence can happen anywhere to anyone. It reinforces the fact that domestic violence knows no boundaries. We're excited to have her share her experience with our guests and with our community through this event."
The Gala featured hors d'oeuvres, an open bar from 7p.m. to 11 p.m., a gourmet dinner, entertainment, dancing and special raffle and silent auction items including:
- Eight bucket list trips to destinations such as Paris, Tuscany, Costa Rica, Greece, and an Alaskan cruise and more.
- Other silent auction items including an autographed Aaron Judge jersey, a VIP trip to a Green Bay Packers game, and more.
- A special jewelry raffle item donated by The Goldmine Jewelers.
"As a result of the tremendous support we received at our first gala, we were able to award a grant to Catholic Charities," Joe Palumbo, Kristin's Fund co-founder said. "They hired their first full-time educator and community outreach coordinator, who in a short time has reached students and community organizations in Herkimer County with healthy relationship and other DV awareness messages. We hope to continue creating awareness by awarding more grants in 2018. "
